Football Season around the Bend

Now I am not talking Cowboys football (though Preseason starts on Thursday, August 3). I am talking Burleson Elks and Centennial Spartan football.

It is time for some Texas-size High School Football.

The first game of the season for each team is August 25. We get to hear our annual updates from Gary McElroy (BHS Head Football Coach) this week and Kyle Geller (CHS Head Football Coach) on August 11.

BURRO Board Updates:

  • The next BURRO Board meeting will be held at 7:00 a.m. August 8 at Cracker Barrel
  • This meeting will be the first of the new Rotary year with Adam Russell as President

Notes from the June 7 Board Meeting:
  • Golf Tournament Revenue $48,441 ($375 not yet collected) less expenses of $13,449 = Profit $34,992 (50% = $17,495.95)
  • Charles indicated that if we do not have more participation in the golf tournament next year we may lose our major sponsors.  (Let's focus on getting more participation next year!)
  • A draft of the Budget was brought before the Board.  With the change of adding $250.00 to the advertising line item upon a motion by Elijah Bruette, seconded by Brooke Justice, the 2017-2018 Budget was unanimously approved.  (A copy of the Budget was shared with the club at Adam's first meeting as president)
  • Brooke Justice reported that the Ukraine project is in the next phase on Grants.org.  He is emailing the clubs that have indicated they would like to participate again and asking for their donations.
  • Brooke Justice reported that Bruce Nelson is working on RYLA recruits for this year’s trip.  He currently has 5 candidates.
  • Brooke is going to contact next year’s outgoing exchange students and this year’s returning exchange student and have them come in and make a presentation to the club.  He will also have this year’s RYLA students make a presentation to the club as well. (3 of which just presented to the club as the program)
  • Dan Taylor reported that he reviewed Rotary International’s Bylaws and there is a provision for a club to waive club dues for a new member that is under 35 and just starting in the business community for a time.  If we were to consider using this we would add a provision that would require certain volunteering efforts be made to qualify for this benefit.
  • Dan Taylor thanked the Board for their hard work during his tenure as President
Be in the know, attend a BURRO Board Meeting: Second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 a.m. Cracker Barrel.
