There are many great causes in the world. Last week we had Jessie Wente and Charlie Powell from Make A Wish speak to the club about the work that they do with children who are facing life altering diseases. This is a program that is near and dear to my heart as I have a nephew who is currently a Make A Wish kid. As many of you know, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia last year around the time that I joined the club. He has been battling this since May of last year and recently underwent a bone marrow transplant. I am happy to say that he is recovering well and is even ahead of schedule. His wish has also been granted by Make A Wish. I thought I would share what his wish is so that you can see the scope of the things they can do. My nephew, Zeb, is a people person and he wanted to have a playroom created in their barn where he can host friends and family that come and visit him. My family is on the hook to build a new barn and then Make A Wish will finish it out to Zeb's request. I can vouch that it is something that he has looked forward to throughout his treatment and now that he is out of the hospital, they are looking to build the barn and finish his project. He still has a long road of recovery ahead of him as the average bone marrow transplant recovery can take over a year so this will be something that will bring him joy as he recovers.
