The small town of Guerrero in central Chihuahua, Mexico, is home to the Guerrero Clinic, which has weathered neighboring drug wars and financial setbacks to treat the poor since 1980. Read more.

Bd. holds abbr. mtg.

The BURRO Board of Directors conducted what might best be called an abbreviated meeting Wednesday morning, with barely a quorum on hand to make it official. Business was minimal, mostly routine. The Flags for Scholars project was a primary topic for discussion.

A more serious problem facing the board are the leadership vacancies that now exist. President Manuel's elected board has suffered a few casualties (resignations, transfers, etc.) since our December election, and several leadership positions are now available. Will you help?

Our board meets once each month; meetings last an hour. Board members provide leadership along Rotary's Five Avenues of Service to make sure the club addresses Rotary International's goals for the club, the community, and the world. Without leadership, our club's effectiveness diminishes. Board service is also a great way to learn more about Rotary -- its organization, its mission, and its methods.

Please, please consider involving yourself in the business of Rotary, and if you are asked, agree to serve on the Board of Directors. Every Rotarian is qualified, no experience is necessary.

BURRO makes the parade scene

The morning of July 4 found Rotarians clamoring aboard the club's Independence Day Float and celebrating our nation's birthday along the streets of Burleson. How many BURROtarians can you spot?

These floats don't roll "on their own" of course, so a team of float-toters provided the locomotion:

Thanks, everyone who helped build the float, tote the float, and populate the float. And thanks, Charles Kirk, for the photos.

Surely you jest

A bishop advertises a job to ring the bell in his tower. The only job applicant is a hunchback with no arms.

Bishop: "How can you do the job? You can't pull the rope!"

Hunchback: "I have a cunning plan - but we have to go to the top of the tower, where the bell is." So they climb all those stairs to the top of the tower.

Bishop: "Okay, show me your plan."

The hunchback runs and jumps at the bell, striking it, full force, with his face. Sure enough, the bell rings. So, despite his misgivings, the bishop hired the hunchback to ring the bell.

Every day the hunchback comes in and rings the bell. One day, the hunchback decides to try to ring the bell louder. He goes to the farthest corner of the tower, and runs as fast as he can toward the bell. When he jumps up and hits it with his head, the bell rings clear and loud. Unfortunately, the hunchback hit the bell so hard he's a little groggy. He staggers around a bit, and falls out a window to the street below. A crowd gathers around the hunchback's mangled body lying in the street; the bishop goes out to investigate the commotion.

A policeman arrives and asks the bishop, "Who is this guy?"

The bishop replies: "I don't know his name, but his face rings a bell."

I needed a password eight characters long so I picked Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

And then, there's the one about this guy who walks into a bar . . .

A crow wearing a pearl necklace walks into a bar. He orders a drink. "I've never seen a crow wearing a pearl necklace before", says the barkeep.

"What do you expect with basic black?" says the crow.

A Roman walks into a bar, sticks two fingers up to the barman and says, "Five beers please."

A Texas Rangers baseball player races into a bar. The bartender throws him out.

An infectious disease walks into a bar and the bartender says, "We don't serve infectious diseases here."

And the infectious disease says, "Well you're not a very good host."

Two bacteria walk into a bar. The bartender says, "We don't serve bacteria here."

And the bacteria says, "But we work here. We're staph."

A drunk goes into a bar. The bartender tosses him out as he is too drunk. The drunk walks back into the bar. Again, the bartender throws him out for being too drunk. Again the drunk walks into the bar. The bartender is just about the throw him out when the drunk looks at him and says, "How many bars do you own, anyway?"
